Confirmation of by-election: 20 AAP MLAs declared inept for holding office of profit
Election Commission of India (ECI) has given Aam Admi Party (AAP) a sudden jolt by disqualifying its 20 MLAs for holding office of profit. The action has been taken by the President of India on the recommendation of ECI. As it has been known to every member of the Aam Aadmi Party about the term “Office of Profit”, despite that they had served as the parliamentary secretaries from 15th March 2015 till September 8, 2016. The reason behind holding the post is to get the benefits, perquisites & the salaries that a holder of the position has to get as per rules of the Government. There’s a rule in the constitution that has been mentioned in the Articles 102(1) (a) & 191(1) (a), that an MP or an MLA can be debarred, if they are holding an office of profit in Central or State Government.
